About Adrian

I am Adrian Sai-wah Tam. Hong Kong native. Tam is my surname, Sai-wah is my given name and Adrian is my Christian name – yes, I am a Catholic. In Chinese, my name is written as 譚世華.

After my birth in 1980, I live in Hong Kong and receive my primary, secondary and tertiary education. In 2002 summer, I graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with the BEng degree, major in Information Engineering and minor in French Studies. But don’t count on my French! I am not very fluent in using this language.

I graduated recently with an MPhil degree from the Department of Information Engineering, CUHK. My research is something related to network flow control, under the supervision of Professor Dah-Ming Chiu. My thesis titled “A Study of the Coexistence of Heterogeneous Flows on Data Networks“. In 2006-2007, I was working in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, CUHK as a research assistant. I was working with Professor Irwin King and Professor Jimmy Lee on something related to information retrival and textual analysis.

Currently, I am enrolled in the Polytechnic University in New York as a Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering. My supervisor is Professor H. Jonathan Chao and I am doing research in computer networking, again. However, my interest is not limited to my research. Anything shown in this site is all my interest.

Besides the academic stuff, I am also a veteran of Linux and FreeBSD/OpenBSD. Currently I am in the executive board of the Hong Kong Linux Users Group. If you are coming to Hong Kong and want to meet some Linux people, just contact us!
